Death in the centre of the Matrix of Destiny

Mechanics. You are read as a person near whom something comes to an end. Not frighteningly, rather honestly: you call things by their names, you do not support rituals nobody believes in, and one question from you can close a conversation that polite people would drag out for another year. A trail of change follows you. A group you join looks different six months later; a friendship in which you choose honesty either becomes real or ends in one evening. You have few half-tones. People nearby feel that pretending is pointless, and for some this is liberating, while others are frightened enough to prefer to keep away, without explaining why.

Works when things need finishing: restructuring, closing projects, break-ups, work with grief, any situation where the rest drag on to the last and someone must say aloud that it is over, we have arrived. You are not afraid of an ending, because endings have happened often enough and you know that the next day comes after. You can bear emptiness.

Breaks when the habit of cutting off runs ahead of necessity. You leave first so as not to be left; you burn bridges where a pause would have been enough; you throw out whole pieces of life together with the people, because mending takes long and starting over is familiar. The second failure is inward: there is so much change that no place has time to become yours, and to "where are you from" the answer has to be long. None of your attachments has roots: the flat is rented for the tenth time, there are few belongings, hardly any old friends are left, and it seems that this is how it was meant to be, until one day you need a rear guard.

What it looks like:

What to do.

  1. Before a break, wait three days. If the decision is the same after three days, it is yours and not a reaction.
  2. Tell finishing from flight: after the first there is clarity, after the second relief for a day and emptiness for a month.
  3. Keep one thing you never change. A place, a habit, a person.

Takeaway: you are read as the one who is not afraid of an ending; an ending is useful if something begins after it.
