Mechanics. The business card is charm and choice. People come alive around you: you listen with interest, you get close easily, you remember small things like the fact that someone's thesis defence is on Wednesday. Liking arises on its own, without technique. The other side is not visible at once and usually not to you: decisions come hard, because behind each of two doors you see something good, and any choice feels like losing a second life, the one you will not live. So both doors stand open until somebody else closes them.

Works when things need connecting: a team, sales, diplomacy, a creative duet. You sense who will do well with whom, and are almost never wrong. About others, not about yourself. You can introduce two acquaintances who will marry or open a business together within a year over a single dinner, yet choosing between two versions of your own life can take years, and that difference drives you mad.

Breaks when the choice is postponed to the last moment. You do not quit the job and do not love it, do not end the relationship and do not deepen it, do not rent the flat and do not buy it; instead of a decision you wait for a sign, and the sign turns out to be someone else's decision, taken for you. The second failure is living by somebody else's liking. You agree so as not to disappoint, and a few years later find yourself in a script you did not write. The most hurtful part is that the author of that script usually insisted on nothing: they simply suggested it once, and it felt awkward to object and seemed there was still time.

What it looks like:

• Between two job offers you take three months to choose, and in the end both close.
• People call you "an easy person", though inside calm is rare.
• In a conflict both sides are glad to see you, and so neither trusts you fully: someone who has never stood up for anyone is counted as one of their own only in words.

What to do.

1. Set a deadline for the decision in advance, right in the calendar. On that day choose from what exists, not from what might appear.
2. After choosing, close the second door physically: delete the messages, refuse plainly.
3. Ask not "what is better" but "what am I ready to pay". The second question can be answered.
