Mechanics. You are hard to read the first time, and that is the whole point. People sense depth and things left unsaid: near you a feeling arises that there is a second bottom, which fascinates some and troubles others, both feelings appearing before a single word is spoken. You pick up the mood of a room with your skin. You sense another person's lie before you find the proof, and cannot answer "how do you know". The impression of you differs widely between people. Some think you closed, others the most understanding person in their life.

Works when you need to work with the indirect: art, psychology, music, film, research, everything where atmosphere and subtext matter more than formulation. Your imagination works without stopping and supplies material practical people simply do not have. An image, a metaphor, an exact detail come by themselves. You cannot explain where from, and so for a long time consider it unserious, until somebody pays money for it.

Breaks when imagination starts to serve fear. One unread message in a chat unfolds into a scenario of betrayal, and by evening you are already living inside it, and in the morning it turns out the person's phone had died. The second failure is fog instead of a position. You speak in hints, wait to be guessed, take offence at being misunderstood, and those close to you tire of being interpreters. It is especially hard for those who have been around a long time: they have learned your intonations but still get half of them wrong, and each mistake costs an evening spent finding out what exactly your phrase on Thursday meant.

What it looks like:

• At night things are obvious to you that by day look silly, and decisions made at two in the morning have to be cancelled by noon.
• You remember dreams and sometimes recognise in life what was in them.
• To a direct question you answer indirectly. Even when the answer is simple.

What to do.

1. Separate fact from guess in writing: two columns, and the fear usually settles in the right-hand one.
2. Say the important things in plain words, even if it seems rude. It does not.
3. Keep a sleep routine. More depends on it for you than for others.
