Symbolism

Rain has no direction here; it just falls, like grief that comes without a reason you can argue with. The swords are identical, regimented: three cuts from three separate decisions or facts, not one blow. The clouds are heavy but they are clouds, not a storm — the air is still. This is not sudden violence; it is the slow, steady pressure of a truth that will no longer be ignored.
Upright
This card names a state where something you believed in has cracked open — trust, a relationship, a story you told yourself about how things were. The pain is real and it sits right in the centre of your chest. Do not reach for a bandage yet. The movement here is from pretending to knowing. You can stop bracing against the thing you already felt coming. The situation is heading toward clarity, but clarity arrives through the wound, not around it. Let the rain fall until the air clears.
Reversed
Reversed, the swords are still in the heart — nothing has been removed. But the card is underwater now: you are numbing, distracting, rationalising, or trying to forgive before you have actually felt the cut. The pain is still there, just not allowed to surface. This is not healing; it is postponement. Where upright demands you sit with the hurt, reversed shows you avoiding the very thing that would let the heart drain and eventually breathe. The blockage is not the pain — it is the refusal to admit the pain is real.
In love and relationships
A relationship built on a story that is now untenable. Someone has said the thing that cannot be unsaid, or you have realised the love you thought you had was half invention. The proper read is to ask: what truth is this heart refusing to let in, and what would happen if it did?
